Everytime I hear someone dismiss a Japanese car because of some reason involving WWII I just roll my eyes and immediately just end the conversation. There’s no point continuing.
The funniest thing - at least in my experience - is that they don’t have any of the same hatred towards German brands. They just like having an excuse to be Xenophobic toward the Japanese. And it usually carries over to the South Korean brands for some inexplicable reasons...at that point they just mumble if asked directly.

Exactly. Except you can also apply the non-hatred to American cars. I asked my car-guy friend if my dad should get the new Miata and he said no. I asked why and I kid you not, he said "Because it's a Miata". This literally shows that, as you said, people make up excuses about hating the Japanese.

Most of the time I hear irrational hate for American cars. I can't remember the last time I heard anyone say anything bad about a Japanese car.

For me at least I’ve heard the opposite. Everyone I know is “oh ‘murica they make the best cars if you don’t buy one you’re stupid” and thus they hate on Jap cars.
I’m assuming that the hate for American cars you’re hearing is due to the pre-bankruptcy era. Admittedly they made some bad cars during that time, but they’ve improved for sure.

I still remember when that Typhoon (and total incompetence of managing a nuclear reactor plant) took out Fukushima. Sooooo many “This is payback for Pearl Harbor!!” Comments on social media. From people who weren’t even alive at that time and aren’t connected to anyone that was. Because the double nuking wasn’t payback enough.
I just wanted to strangle the whole world.

Possibly. The people I know dislike Miatas thought because they’re “slow”.
